Week 6 - Presentation (Tamagotchi)

Week 6

Week 5th we were supposed to present about our presentation. Our presentation is about use artist references to create an ideas by using New media. So basically our work is linked with Cory Arcangel. The linking between our ideas and his is we are using the old time memories games. Which we decided to use Tamagotchi. Tamagotchi is an electronic toy displaying a digital image of a creature, which has to be looked after and responded to by the 'owner' as if it were a pet.
This are our mind-map about childhood games.

We got inspiration from these two videos;
1. This is the video of Holographic screen:
2. T mobile angry bird:

So basically our ideas for Tamagotchi is, we are going to create the reality of Tamagotchi version by using Holographic Screen. Holographic is a graphic that shows a three dimensional, projected of something or someone. We will use holographic screen to make the Tamagotchi displays from the projector, and it will appear with three dimensions of Tamagotchi. There will be 3 buttons on the projector, there are; 'Shit', 'Food' and 'Food detector'.

So for the 'Shit' button; if we press the button the trash bin will appear on the holographic screen and the laser from the holographic projector will detect our hand gestures, when we pick up the shit, the shit will be on our hand let us to throw into the bin.
Next one is 'Food' button; if we press the button they will scan the food what we are eating. And it will measure the calories of the food and also the status of the food such as vitamins, carbs, protein, fats, sugar level, salt level and etc. And there will be spoon & fork provided. The spoon and fork is to scan our food, there are real utensils; so we can use it to eat and it will detect our food datas while eating. When we are eating the food the food datas will be send to the holographic projector and make the Tamagotchi eat as well.

This thing also can help for diet as well, as we know that if Tamagotchi consume too much food they will die. So if the holographic screen give an alert sign we should stop eating as well. There will be the limit of calories that Tamagotchi should consume and also the limit is limited by every user's data. And when Tamagotchi dies, it won't just die with cross sign on their eyes and disappear. They will also have reasons when they die, such as disease.

Our idea is basically focused for those who wants to have pets, on diet, and play old time games.

Week 5 - Night Fest

Week 5

I went to Night Festival on Saturday, and I thought I was not able to take picture of the artwork but luckily I manage to take one and took a video of it. The artwork that attracted me the most was the 'Keyframes' by Groupe Laps (FR).

From this installation artwork the most interesting part was when the sculpture moves by creating different movements. The artist used LED figures and their routine imbue static building with energy and excitement. This installation artwork brings glimmers of the past to life.

Week 4 - Cory Arcangel

Week 4

Cory Arcangel is a Brooklyn, New York post-conceptual artist. He is well known for using different kinds of media in the work, such as drawing, music, video, performance art, and video game modifications. Arcangel often uses the artistic strategy of appropriation, creatively re-using existing materials such as dancing stands, Photoshop gradients and YouTube videos to create new works of art. He explores the relationship between digital technology and pop culture from his work.

Title of the artwork: Super Mario Clouds
Date: 2002
Medium: Handmade hacked Super Mario Clouds Brothers cartridge and Nintendo NES video game system
Dimensions: Dimensions variable
Edition information: 2/5

Super Mario Clouds is based on the Super Mario game for Nintendo’s NES game console. Cory Arcangel hacked the game and modified it so that all that remains of the game are the white clouds on a blue sky. Gone is the main character, Super Mario, who the player had to guide through a labyrinth in the original jump and run game, just like the obstacles, landscapes and opponents that lend the game its narrative structure. Those people who are familiar with the game can imagine them on the empty background; everyone else will just see the cartoon like display of a sky. The work was created on the basis of a manipulation of the hardware and software. Cory Archangel had to open the cartridge, on which the game was stored, and replace the Nintendo graphics chip with a chip on which he had burned a program he had written himself. He is a member of the Beige Programming Ensemble who have focused their artistic programmed on the hacking ethic of manipulating existing technology, thereby taking the modification of legacy technology to absurd extremes: the group have published computer programs pressed on records and organize an annual competition for cassette disk jockeys.
